Road Trip to Slab City

Feeling the need for some wanderlust, decided it was time to take a road trip.....Final destination being Slab City, which is known for being one of the last free spots left in the america, but will get into that upon my arrival. There are several places along the route which I intend to visit ranging from Casino's to Desert Camp spots, and of course the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous in Quartzsite, Az...No set time limit, just
exploring places of interest along the way.......

Tucson Az my home for the last 10 weeks, with the Santa Catalina's in the background, some great hiking in that area.
Double Nickel my usual travel speed gotta take time to enjoy the scenery, seems these days everyone's in a hurry, and most don't have anywhere to be....Slow down enjoy life, we are all heading to the same place. I hope :)
Picacho Peak located about 40 miles north of Tucson rises 3374 ft above sea level, there are two trails to the top both involving cables that you can attach yourself to to avoid a nasty fall.
 Picacho Peak
The norm for most businesses in the area boarded up, and shut down except for a few overpriced tourist traps.

 Ostrich farm in the area!
 Westward
Arizona cottonfield always seemed a awkward place to grow cotton. In 2010 Az produced 3 billion pounds of cotton.
My new home for a few days. Will definitely write a post about my experiences here. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoyed!

  1. Those empty boarded up buildings imo are free spaces to live. As far as the cotton, I am curious as to wether it is GMO. What about the weight produced, what happened to all that cotton?

  2. The buildings appear to be filled with cotton, not sure if there GMO or not. They found cotton in ancient pueblo ruins, and have commercially farmed it since world war 1. Not sure where it went? Something to Google I guess

    1. Hey Dan,Both are winter spots for snowbirds, but the slabs from what I have heard isn't a actual city, there is no police, no government, no Blm management, or forest rangers to heckle you. Its a community where you can go live fulltime, and pay nothing. I believe they have a library some sort of cafe, and some sort of stage where they hold concerts that were all built by the folk who live the. Never been there , but its always been on my list of places to go see, and most travelers Ive talked to say its very interesting, and a must see at least once:)

    1. I wonder how much of that is media hype I meet dozens of travelers every year who spend there winters in Mexico, and love it. Be great to have company to the slabs Ive never been there, but as long as I am in the area it should be worth the experience
