White

Yup its true! Large steel containers get extremely hot! Even thick insulation has troubles fighting off them temps, so decided to paint the whole container the same elastomeric paint that I painted the roof with.

Dropped the temps a good 30 degrees on the exterior walls. Inside the container stays a few degrees cooler then the outside until late afternoon when it catches up to the real temp. A little warmer then I like but livable.

Southern wall white for now. Would eventually like to build a removable shade cloth to shade it in the summer, and catch that heat in the winter. If you look  closely  there have been a few solar panels mounted to the roof. Also the yagi is up on the left front corner getting some blazing 4G out here in the boonies. With electricity and internet all inside Ive officially been living inside for 3 weeks as I continue to build.
North side with more solar will get to the solar set up in the next post.

Attic vents in the front
With a small whirly in the back should provide enough ventilation for the attic
Turtles a bit jealous got a good deal on a lil runner making trips to town much easier, and economical.

Ginger out hunting for lizaeds
Thanks for visiting! Good Day!

  1. Was happy to see this post. I was wondering about the heat that might build, the coating seems to do good lowering the temp. Maybe in time another coat might be a good thing. I can see the panels on the roof. Nice little car you picked up to.
Hotter than... well you know down here. Doesn't look like I will be getting up there this year. That doesn't make me a happy camper

    1. Hey Jo yeah another few coats are coming for sure. Definately to early for this heat. That's to bad about you not making up the hill

  3. Ryan, do you think it rains enough up there to use a catch system for all your water needs. Looks like your doing a great job. I didn`t think it would get that hot.

    1. Hey Dan! Thanks!I do think the annual precip will be more than adequate for a catchment system. Probably on the agenda for next year. Will just haul my own for now it's 5 bucks for 300 gallons at the general store

  4. Things are looking really good! It mjust be hard to work like that in such high temps, though. Probably feels like a steam room and work out all at once.

I like the idea of getting a small car to run to town. That's got to be easier for you.

  6. Ryan ... If that is the exterior temperature of the container, what is the general temperature if you were sitting under a tree somewhere in the shade?

    1. Hey Steve just noticed my first reply didn't go work. About 10 degrees cooler then the outside of the container is now
