All is good on the homestead. Been busy running wires, and constantly thinking, and making changes to the next project. Want everything to be in order before the interior walls go up. Also started growing started a few experiments growing potatoes and onions. Will get to that later.
Installed 3 260 watt panels on the roof which on a good day produce about 50 amps of juice. Heres a few more pics of the rest of the system
New inverter by aims. 2000 watt with 6000 watt surge and auto generator start feature. Will run just about anything I can throw at it.
Even runs the A/C but battery bank still isnt big enough for such a load. Will work great once I have a larger generator to handle such loads, but a fan has been doing the trick to keep cool for now.
Not the cleanest looking set-up. Added 2 more batteries to the set up that I removed from "The Turtle" giving me around 690 amp hours. A insulated battery box is in the near future.
Solarmate 60 amp MPPT charge controller mounted above the breaker box
Handy lil gauge monitors the system picked it up for about 20 bucks on amazon.
Lights on! Bathroom is just about framed up, and if you look very close the shower faucet and handles are up and running now I just need to get a shower stall installed.
Ginger not liking the crows on the roof. Also a rabbit has moved in under the container, which makes for the perfect babysitter Ginger never leaves the side of the container. Of course she still gets long daily hikes up in the forest.
Thanks for visiting! Good Day!
Impresive set up. I've been wondering how hot it is up there and how you were doing in the heat. I'm sure much better than I am doing down here. Can't wait to see the walls go in.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo! Rains have been settling in so it's been a lot nicer
DeleteYou've been hard at it! Just a thought...I recently watched a Homestead rescue show, where they helped out a family in desert conditions. They pretty easily set up an underground geo thermal air system, just burying black pipe 6' underground , which with a small fan, circulated air temp at around 74 degrees.
ReplyDeleteThats a great idea! Considered doing that but the soil here is extremely rocky. Will definitely build a solar heater one of these days the folks down the road have one and it kicks out 170 degree air
DeleteI'm just so impressed with your solar knowledge. Turning sun into volts. very cool skills. Your place looks like it is coming together nicely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pizza dude. Pretty basic after you figure it all out. Will be a great little home when it's done. The fact that it'll cost next to nothing to live here is even better.
DeleteGreat job Ryan, are you planning to spend the winter there this year?
ReplyDeleteThanks Dan! Yeppers traveling days are over for now
DeleteHey Ryan! You've really made some progreess.
ReplyDeleteI had a rough few months and totally lost touch with everything (surgery, Blech!) I'm back on the east coast for the rest of the summer. Maybe catch up with you in the fall.
Ginger's grown into a gorgeous girl! Stumpy and I dog sit for her doppleganger every November.
Great to hear from you! Hope all is well after the surgery. Shes grown into a pain in the butt lol
DeleteThanks for writing this such a great piece of article
